2-D Dots

These 3 picture are of my final 3.  The other ones that my table critiqued are similar, but these three are that strongest with composition and trying to get the three ideas across. The table said that i need to work on staying in the lines and coloring more neatly but they did say that the three before you are very neat and clean.
The first picture on the left hand side is proximity. Proximity is an object or events that are near one another are perceived as they belong together as a unit. Proximity also can have tension. The middle picture is similarity. Similarity is things which share characteristics such as shape, size, color, texture, and value or orientation. With similarity it could be opposite, for example it could be similar because there all different, that's not the case with the middle picture, but it is possible. The last picture on the right hand side is continuance. Continuance keeps the eye moving in any direction, not just a straight line.
This project was made out of cardstock and permanent markers.  I used  a circle template to draw out the circles. then I used the permanent markers to retrace and color in the dots.  This assignment was very creative on teaching me the three concepts listed above. It also go me to see it in other ways then just my own.

the first 3-d project outside of class( the balls)

The first 3-D assignment outside of class was to make 3 balls the size of a basketball.  The first one was just the kin of the ball, the second one was just the inner structure of the ball, and the last one is the whole ball but without any glue. The first two we could use glue to hold the balls together. The first ball gave me a little challenge, so i ended up taking a basketball and gluing cardboard around half of it. I then slid it off and did the same again. Then I just glued the two halfs together.  The first picture is half of the first ball. The second picture is the final product of the second ball. the second ball i just cut circles  out then measured two inches in and drew another circle inside the ball.  Then i cut the circles in half then glued them together. the third pic is the final structure of the ball. The third ball was a challenge and I had to redo it  but the second one worked out. I do not have a Picture of it. it will come soon.
Most of all they are made out of cardboard. We were told it would be hard but i truely didnt not grasp how hard until i was working with cardboard. Cardboard likes to be flat or a box not round. It is a great medium to work with but i would not choose if i had to.

dot habits

This assignment was to create thumb nails of proximity similarity and continuance. Then the group was suppose to look at each others thumb nails and observe each others habits good or bad.
With the dots, I have many habits. It was hard to break so many habits. My first habit, my group pointed out was the scale. I like to use many different sizes. I never just use one size, i like variety. The second habit is that I like to use the sides corners and going diagonal, it is very rare for me to use the middle of the square. Third habit is that I use the maximum of dots most if the time. Also back to the corners if i use them i have a tendency to cluster the dots in the corners.  So i had a lot of habits but not bad habits.

First Class 3-D and 2-D

The first day started off very interesting. We where assigned a 3-D project which was really fun. We were to create a character either a daydream or a nightmare, then male or female, human or not, and every thing that went around the character like the time period, environment, age, job, body part, mood.  I created and evil fish. Then we all got up and did a runway. It was a great show.  The second part of the day was more on the lines of a lecture. Kathy started off saying that all art is about tension whether it is physical which can be discomfort or pleasure or with relationships or even spirit. Then Kathy went on about composition which is part of any of your senses. To compose is to join things together. The act of combining parts of elements and to form a whole. Then we talked about the elements of design line, color, value, texture, space. Then we where broken back into our tables to form an act to describe one of the elements of art. fun fun!!
With 2-D we learned about gestalt concepts: Proximaty, similarity, continuance, which is still Little fuzzy to me but with doing the hw assignment i hope it will help
